For Hannah Homan, the decision to pursue a master’s in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Learning and Assessment program was driven by her deep-rooted passion for psychology and education. Now 12 credits into the 30-credit program, she has found the coursework to be a powerful blend of theory and practical application, designed to align with her career aspirations. Topics such as emotion, motivation and self-regulation have not only captured her interest but also reinforced her desire to support students on their educational journeys.
“I’m especially interested in student-athletes,” said Hannah. “My capstone project will likely focus on how we can better support them through their academic careers, addressing the unique challenges they face both on and off the field.”
A key factor in Hannah’s experience has been the accessibility and expertise of UA Online’s faculty. She speaks highly of her interactions with professors, highlighting Dr. Hyemin Han in particular. “Dr. Hyemin has been the best professor I’ve taken so far,” Hannah enthused. “His teaching style really resonated with me, and I even sought out another class he was teaching this semester because of it.”
After completing her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Troy University in 2023, Hannah moved to Tuscaloosa to start her new job as an admissions representative for UA Online. In this position, she helps prospective students navigate the process of applying to online degree programs, a position that has deepened her appreciation for the opportunities online education offers. “I’m passionate about online learning,” Hannah explained. “It’s never too late to make a career shift or pursue something you’ve always wanted to do. I love helping others see that potential in themselves.”
Balancing her full-time job with her studies, Hannah has found the flexibility of the online format to be a game-changer. “The online program has given me the freedom to pursue my degree while still having time for personal activities like going to the gym or spending time with friends,” she said, contrasting her experience with her undergraduate years when she juggled coursework with a demanding night-shift job. “It was exhausting back then, but now I feel like I can truly manage my time and enjoy both work and school.”
Hannah has unique insights into the benefits of UA Online’s approach to fostering connection and community. “I never feel isolated in my program,” she noted. “The instructors do an excellent job of engaging us through discussion posts, and I’ve found that reaching out to fellow students leads to great conversations. Everyone is so supportive and kind.”
Hannah hopes after earning her master’s, she can advance her career in higher education with an interest in working in student life or with student-athletes. With a few semesters remaining, Hannah is excited about completing her degree and continuing to make an impact in the field of higher education, all while helping others realize their own potential through online learning.
