Depending on your aspirations, the online MSOM program offers a track in Operations Management and a track in Decision Analytics to meet your needs.

Curriculum

The MS in Operations Management consists of 30 hours of coursework. Part-time students may complete the program in 18-24 month by taking two classes per semester. No thesis is required. Please note that courses are subject to change.

Depending on your career and areas of interests, students in the online MSOM program can choose from one of the following two tracks:

The Operations Management Track requires 30 hours of coursework and can be completed in 18-24 months if students begin the program in the fall semester.

  • ST 560 Statistical Methods I
  • OM 500 Management Science and Spreadsheet Modeling
  • OM 517 Supply Chain Modeling and Analysis
  • OM 522 Production Scheduling Problems
  • OM 523 Inventory Management
  • OM 524 Manufacturing Scheduling and Control Systems
  • OM 540 Systems Simulation
  • ST 575 Statistical Quality Control, or OM 525 Effective Quality Management
  • OM 596 Capstone Project (complete in one of the last two semesters)

Elective Course (approved by the program coordinator) (3 hours)

*At least one semester of calculus equivalent to MATH 121 or higher.

Students interested in a curriculum that combines the prescriptive modeling and analytical skills arising from UA’s Operations Management program with the data management and data mining skills arising from UA’s Statistical Analysis System (SAS)/Data Mining certification program may select the MSOM Decision Analytics Track.The Decision Analytics Track requires 30 hours of coursework and can be completed in 18-24 months if students begin the program in the summer semester.

Admission

Candidates applying for admission to the program should meet the following criteria, regardless of educational background or employment experience:

  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.3
  • Minimum GMAT score of 580 or GRE score of 308*
  • Grade of B or higher in Calculus I (The University of Alabama equivalent is MATH 121 or higher)
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Resume
  • Good quantitative skills and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Three letters of recommendation

*Test scores are waived for Fall 2021 semester applications.

Is there a lab component that would require me to visit UA’s campus or another campus?

  • No, a lab component is not required. The program is 100% online.

Do I have to complete Calculus 1 before I apply?

  • Yes, you must have completed Calculus 1 (UA MATH 121 or higher) prior to submitting the application.

What areas of study does the program offer?

  • You have the option to choose between two different tracks in the MSOM program: Operations Management or the Decision Analytics track.
