Build specialized expertise to help youth with disabilities successfully transition from school to adult life with the Graduate Certificate in Transition and Interagency Practice. Offered through The University of Alabama’s ASPIRE Project and UA Online, this 18-credit-hour online program prepares professionals to support successful transitions through collaborative, evidence-based practices.

Prepare to Make an Impact Through Transition Services

Deepen your expertise in transition planning and service delivery while learning how professionals across disciplines and agencies can work together to support transition-age youth with disabilities. Grounded in an innovative interprofessional education (IPE) framework, the program prepares you to navigate the complex, collaborative nature of transition services and develop strategies that support positive outcomes in employment, education, independent living and community participation.

Designed for professionals working in special education, rehabilitation, social services and related fields, this graduate certificate is 100% online and can enhance the skills you bring to your current role or help you develop a specialization in transition services. Graduates can apply their expertise in roles such as rehabilitation counselor, special educator, rehabilitation specialist, social worker or job coach, as well as other positions serving transition-age youth with disabilities.

Curriculum

The Graduate Certificate in Transition and Interagency Practice requires the completion of 18 credit hours. Please note that courses are subject to change.

Admission

Applicants must hold a completed bachelor’s degree. The application will include the requested Graduate School materials including unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended, three letters of recommendation and a 1-2 page Personal Statement describing the following: (a) Why you are interested in working with transition age youth with disabilities, (b) Your commitment to pursuing a career working with youth with disabilities, after graduating from the ASPIRE project, and (c) Your plan for completing the program with a min. 3.0 GPA and in a timely manner.

To be considered for the ASPIRE program, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in improving vocational and inclusive outcomes for youth with disabilities
  • Show a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration across education and rehabilitation systems
