Website Data Collection
For marketing purposes, to make improvements, and to enhance the online experience for students and visitors to the website, the Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education (OTIDE) uses digital tracking technologies to acquire knowledge of how the visitor uses the website. OTIDE uses server sessions to store visitors’ session information and automatically records information on all visitors to the website, including but not limited to the URL, IP address, browser type, language, and the date and time of a visitor’s request. OTIDE will not license, sell, or provide personally identifying information (PII) for any individual without a legitimate business purpose (i.e., via an approved contract to provide student services) or without explicit consent to any third party. However, in compliance with federal, state, or local laws and regulations, there are limited circumstances where a visitor’s information will be shared. These instances include, but are not limited to, resolving legal matters, preventing fraud or imminent harm, and securing UA’s network and services.
Additionally, some pages ask visitors to voluntarily provide PII before accessing the page or as a requirement to receive certain information. The information provided can be used to contact the visitor; however, the visitor will be allowed to opt out of such contact. Also, a visitor can decline to provide PII and/or refuse to allow cookies; by doing so, certain features or services may not function. All websites that collect PII are secured encrypted websites. Definitions
Cookies: a file containing unique information that a website can use to store passwords, pages visited, or the date last visited a specific page. It may also identify the server session at a particular website.
Personally Identifiable Information: any data that could potentially be used to identify a particular person or distinguish one individual from another (e.g., name, CWID, email address, bank account or tax information, etc.)
Server session: a cookie stored on a web server that stores information concerning pages visited, when those pages were visited, or other personally identifiable information supplied by the visitor to that page or retrieved from a visitor.
